If you live in an area where mosquitoes are a problem you will not want to provide somewhere for them to breed! Still, uncovered water is just what they are looking for to lay their eggs and a bird bath will provide just the ideal conditions. So what can you do to prevent this? There are two solutions solutions we recommend, the use of a ‘Water Wiggler’ or using a ‘Mosquito Dunk’
Water Wigglers are battery operated devices to agitate the water. It will produce vibrations that will cause ripples through the water on the bird bath. This will not only prevent mosquitoes from settling on the surface and laying their eggs but will also help to attract the birds. Water wigglers are easy to use as they do not require any wiring or plumbing. Just insert the batteries and place in the bird bath. They are also designed to operate quietly to preserve the tranquility in the garden and ensure they do not scare the birds.

Mosquito Dunks are an all natural method to prevent mosquitoes breeding in your bird bath or other still water around your garden. Use them in ponds, gutters, water barrels, unused swimming pools etc. They are a good alternative to chemical treatments and are environmentally friendly! They should be used once a month by placing one dunk for every 100 square feet of surface water. Of course your bird bath will be only a fraction of this so you can safely break of a small piece of the ‘Dunk’ to add to the water. Unused pieces can safely be stored for later use. Mosquito Dunks work by killing the mosquito larvae before they mature.
